Urubamba River
Spend a day whitewater rafting down the beautiful Urubamba River...
The Urubamba River, just an hour’s drive from Cusco, flows through the Sacred Valley of the Incas and offers a variety of rafting experiences. The first section of the river, known as "Chuquiqawana", is perfect for those wanting more white water action; it has both Class III and Class IV rapids, depending on the seasonal water level. The next section, "Ollantaytambo", is of moderate difficulty, while "Huaran" is ideal for families with younger children who wish to share the excitement of river rafting. Whatever level of challenge you desire, the Urubamba provides an unforgettable whitewater adventure.
One day itinerary
Chuquiqwana Section

We head out toward the upper section of the Sacred Valley of the Inkas to the town of Chuquiqawana, some 80 kilometers from the city of Cusco. Along our way we pass by the lakes of Huacarpay and Urcos, as well as the great gateway of Rumicollca in the vicinity of the ruins of the pre-Inka city of Piquillacta, eventually reaching the bridge over the Chuquiqawana, a tributary river flowing into the Vilcanota on its right bank.
Here, we ready our equipment and gear, undergo our safety and technical briefing and put in. We shall be in the water for altogether three hours, paddling and running various fun-filled Class III – V rapids (depending on the level and volume of water flow). Upon take-out we will enjoy a picnic and delight in observing the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

HuarÁn Section

We pick you up in the morning and drive to the vicinity of the Suspension Bridge at Urco, hanging over the Vilcanota, or Urubamba River, located in the Sacred Valley. This is the put-in point of our rafting trip. We unload the boats and distribute the personal gear. After our guides give us a quick technical briefing in safety procedures on the water, we’re ready to start. This first section is very easy-going, with Class-I and II rapids, ideally suited to bring children along.
We paddle for about one and a half hours. During the trip we enjoy a snack aboard our boats on the river. After this if there are any children aboard, they debark and accompanied by an adult, hike along a beautiful (and short) trail –in the company of an adult until arriving at the Huarán’s forest. Meanwhile, the adults have been busy running the rapid of Huarán. This is the largest rapid in this section of the river, a Class-II or IV, depending on the level of water.
After taking out of the river, we enjoy a delicious lunch and return to the hotel in Cusco.
