South American rivers, according to their eventual directional flow, will drain into either the Pacific or the Atlantic Oceans. Due to the proximity of the Cordillera of the Andes to the Western Coastline of the continent, those rivers which flow into the Pacific Ocean generally do not exceed 200 kilometers in length.  The opposite is true of South American rivers that drain into the Atlantic. These have extremely long courses that reach many thousands of kilometers, such as the Amazon, which spans a length of  7000 kilometers before reaching the Atlantic coast.

The beauty of  the rivers of Peru is to be found in the deep canyons carved by their rushing waters over thousand of years, in the cascades and waterfalls, in the abundant flora and the many species of fauna that inhabit them.
